I’ve had the best time at CMA! The hostel feels more like a houseshare than a typical hostel so if you plan on staying long term and working, it’s perfect. The atmosphere is really nice and it feels like a big family - there’s always someone around to chat to. Steve (the owner) is really friendly and is always keen to give advice about the best places to go in Melbourne. The location is fab too being really close to the CBD, plus Richmond itself is full of nice cafes, restaurants and bars.

Really great long term hostel with a good atmosphere! Location is ideal, just a 5 minute walk to the station. Steve the owner is always about offering advice on where to go in Melbourne and offering food/drink recommendations Originally booked for 1 week and stayed for 6!

I moved to CMA after previously staying at a hostel in St Kilda and can easily say it was the best decision I made. As previous reviews have mentioned and I'm sure more will in the future, CMA should be treated as a share house rather than a hostel. The vibe is chilled but there are always people keen to go out, with Steve's (the owner) help to suggest places to eat & drink. The only reason I am leaving CMA is to go and do farm work, but when I return to Melbourne I'll be sure to book in again.

CMA made my experience in Melbourne more than I could have wished for. From the word go, the owner Steve was helpful and compliant to my needs; from assisting myself and others with job hunting to taking room mates to hospital appointments. CMA should be treated as a share house rather than a hostel. Steve makes sure that rooms are never at capacity, so you always have your own space. I consider myself to have life long friends from CMA and will miss them dearly as I move on with my adventures.

Best hostel in Melbourne. Everyone is very friendly and laid back. All the facilities you need for a long term stay. Kitchen is a bit small but it's a small hostel so this wasn't a problem for me. Steve is a lovely owner who really cares about the guests. Would liked to have stayed longer. Good location too, close to tram and train but out of the hustle and bustle of CBD so you get a good night's sleep.

Great place to stay long term rather than short term. Definitely more of a shared house vibe than a hostel which is just what I need. Steve the owner is a great guy, always happy to help and give information on local places or help find work. Rooms are never (intentionally) fully booked so it never feels overcrowded and you have your own space. Not too far from CBD (bout 15 mins tram). Would highly recommend

Had a fantastic stay here, booked the first week and was still there a month on. You meet some great people here and everyone is very welcoming. Steve, the owner is lovely and took us out for coffee on various occasions, as well as being fantastic for Melbourne knowledge and places to eat. I would definitely recommend CMA, really decent place to stay with great people and atmosphere!

This is a good small hostel. I stayed here for 6 months. It is in a great location in Richmond with plenty of shops and with easy access to public transport into the city nearby. I would recommend to a friend.

The owner, Stephen, is really great, and he stops by every morning. The rest of the staff are good, and the residents are mostly long-term (multi-month). There is no wifi, which was a bummer for me. The place is pretty run down, as well. The kitchen and bathrooms are moldy, and cleaning is pretty haphazard. Stay here for the people, not the facilities!

Whoke building needs a refurb, we weren't really sure how clean everything was. When we checked out the guy wasn't there all morning despite us texting him, so we couldn't get our deposit back. We felt although it was cheap, you get what you pay for, and there are other, better places to stay in Melbourne for the same price.
