Stayokay Amsterdam Oost (Zeeburg) is set in an old 20th-century schoolhouse, renovated by Dutch designers. We have a café-restaurant that puts on a daily breakfast buffet for €7 – definitely worth it for the freshly squeezed juice! Grab a drink at the bar, and step out onto the terrace to catch some sun and get chatting with other travellers over a beer or two. Want to blend in with the locals? Hire a bike from us and cycle around the city. Once you're back at the hostel, the elevator will save your cycled-out legs.

We're about 15 minutes by tram from the historic centre of the city, where you can check out the famous Red Light District, stroll by the canals or find out about World War II history at the Anne Frank Museum. From Schiphol Airport, you can get to the hostel for less than €5 – just change trains at Central Station for Amsterdam Muiderpoort station (about a 26-minute journey). From there it's a 10-minute walk to us.

Rooms and Dorms

Bunks have a reading light and lockers, as well as a power socket so you can charge your phone while listening to Spotify on the free Wi-Fi in bed (the definition of holiday multi-tasking). Bed linen's included in your room price, and you can rent towels. The mixed, male-only and female-only dorms have shared bathrooms, while some private rooms have en-suites.

Extras and activities

There's a games room for playing pool and a common area for chilling in. Think that snack time is the best time? We're with you. Swing by the vending machines to satisfy any cravings. If you fancy a low-key night we have a theatre and cinema nearby, or ask for tips from our friendly staff at the 24-hour reception if you want to discover some of the city's hidden spots.

Would recommend without hesitation to anyone! It's slightly out of the way but the 14 tram goes to the door of the hostel. Our room was spotless and the shower and toilet facilities were great. Lovely staff and a friendly atmosphere in the hostel.

Great stay at this hostel. Super clean, really friendly and efficient staff, and the bar/chill out area was spacious and well decorated - like something out of an IKEA catalogue... bar was good value and when we were there, there was a free DJ on. Rooms spotless, good showers, pretty modern - only negative was the hallways smelled a bit so walking up to the room doesnt fill you with loads of confidence. Would recommend though!

Nice hostel, a bit far from the hart of Amsterdam. A metro pass is definitely a bonus if staying here. Unfortunately there is no kitchen, and no breakfast included, so even if you’re saving a bit of money staying here, the amount you spend on food will make up for it. Hostel was clean overall, and the rooms were nice. Our room had a separate space for the toilet, and one for the shower, and the sink was in the room itself. Room also had a desk, which was a bonus.

Really nice place, almost like a hotel. However there were more families and children than anyone else really which killed the vibe. New bus of kids everyday. Would have liked to read that on the hostel page before booking.

    Very Good

    31 May 2019
Overall the hostel rooms were spacious and somewhat ventilated and the bathrooms were clean and had all the right amenities. The hostel itself is in a neighbourhood a little bit far out of the centre of Amsterdam but once you figure out transport and know your general way around it’s manageable. Coffee was cheap and really good and there are really nice and cheap local restaurants near by.

The hostel was located a bit far out of the action for us, but did have good public transport options. We had a private room and the shower clearly isn’t getting cleaned properly as it was growing fluffy mould! The €7 breakfast is not worth the price.

Stayokay Amsterdam Oost says

I think what guests like the most about our hostel is our price and quality. The rooms are clean and safe, there is free Wi-Fi. In our bar you can meet other travellers and play a game of pool or darts. The hostel has a bike rental service, which is a great way to get around the city! Our staff is very experienced and willing to help you find your way around the city. At the reception lots of things are available like towels, tickets for museums and attractions, public transport tickets and the Amsterdam card or City Pass.
Around the hostel there are some interesting things to do and see. For example, there is a cinema next door and a real Dutch windmill in walking distance. This is a good photo stop and it gets even better; it's also a beer brewery! At 'Brouwerij 't IJ' they make their own local Amsterdam beer and of course you can have a taste there on their sunny terrace.
For some culture you can take a short walk to the Royal Tropical Institute (Tropenmuseum). The permanent and temporary exhibitions display (art) objects, photographs, music and film from non-western cultures. Did you know that there are people with over 180 different nationalities living in Amsterdam?
Guests of all ages are welcome in our hostel. Over the last 5 years that the hostel is open, we have welcomed guests from 0 to 88 years. Most guests are between 18 and 30 years old. This is a wheelchair-friendly building and there is an elevator available. There are also several wheelchair-accessible rooms available for people with special needs or disabilities. Rian, Manager
