Old town

Slovenia's second city, on the Drava in the wine country of Štajerska, with the world's oldest vine, a riverside old town and a ski mountain on its doorstep.
Maribor is Slovenia's second city, in the east of the country close to the Austrian border, in the heart of the Štajerska wine region. Its old town runs down to the river Drava at Lent, the old riverside quarter.
On the wall of a house at Lent grows the oldest vine in the world, more than 400 years old and still producing grapes. Above the city rises Pohorje, a forested mountain with a ski resort in winter and a bike park in summer.
Maribor is relaxed, with a large student population and prices lower than Ljubljana. Two days is right.
The old town is small and walkable. Stay in the centre or near Lent.
