Top Bars in Munich – Your Favourite Munich Bars

Beer by the gallon awaits you in the popular German city of Munich where you’ll find a wide variety of pubs, clubs and beer gardens. We asked you about your favourite top bars in Munich over at our Facebook page. Here’s what you had to say…

Best bars in Munich

Stephen Brody says:

Holfbrauhaus in the centre of Munich has to be my ultimate best bar, purely for the lively buzz and atmosphere, especially when the band are playing in the background.

Hofbrauhaus is also recommended by: Jerry Stroh, Jianqun Zhang, Adriana Noteinteresa, Annehelene Yven, Larry Potter and Mike Gregg. says:

While it’s touristy as hell, no trip to Munich is complete without a visit to the Hofbrauhaus. Here it’s all people in lederhosen dishing out pretzels to sound of ‘oompah’ bands (traditional German bands). Due to the volume of tourists, every night is party night so expect to end up standing on the tables if you go.

Location: Platzl 8, city centre

Schneider Weisse

Nicki Ostrishko says:

Schneiders Weisse has much better beer! It’s on the Tal behind the Sparkasse. says:

Another popular and typically Bavarian bar, Schneider Weisse is the place where the founder of the company, Georg Schneider I., brewed his first Schneider Weisse Original in 1872. Today it’s an extremely popular ‘beerhaus’.

Location: Tal 7, city centre

The X Club

Heather DeWig says:

The X Club in Schwabing. So cool, it feels like a speakeasy and is generally pretty tourist free. It is a great bar. says:

Don’t let the name fool you – this isn’t a place where thumping tunes keep revellers going all night. Instead this is a relaxed bar where the emphasis is on chit chat with your friends rather than going crazy on the dancefloor..

Location: Clemensstr. 71, Schwabing.

The Clubhouse Bar

Karim Koudèche says:

The Clubhouse Bar at Isartor! says:

This small and relaxed bar is popular with backpackers due to the fact that it’s run by a couple of South Africans. Opened in 2006, it’s also a popular place to watch sporting events.

Location: Herrnstrasse 11, city centre

Augustiner Keller

Julia Knechtskern says:

Augustiner keller biergarten. Best beer and beergarden in munich.

Augustiner Keller is also recommended by: Evgeni Brand, Alan Bates and Daniel Hoppe. says:

This beer hall/beer garden can fit thousands when full (8,000 to be precise – the second largest in Munich), making it a great place to do during the summer months. The second largest beer garden in the city is also well known for its food..

Location: Arnulfstr. 52, city centre

Hirschgarten is recommended by: Andres Mayer. says:

Wondering what’s the biggest beer garden in Munich? Correct – Hirschgarten is. While this is one reason to visit, another is the fact that if you feel like getting away from the city centre for a while then visit this popular beer garden on the outskirts at Hirschgarten recreational park.

Location: Hirschgarten 1.

Green Room

Green Room is recommended by: Elisabeth Iguanamarina. says:

Green in name and green in nature – this bar located over two floors and has plants of all descriptions dotted throughout giving it an airy feel. It’s also a great place for cocktails with over 150 on the list.

Location: Leopoldstr. 13, Schwabing.

The Atomic Café

The Atomic Café is recommended by: Maria Inês Carreira. says:

Renowned for their live music (there’s live music staged almost every night), this popular bar gets a mixed crowd. When live bands aren’t playing, DJs entertain. Inside it’s all very slick with lava lamps, disco balls and leather couches.

Location: Neuturmstrasse 5, city centre

Café am Hochhaus

Café am Hochhaus is recommended by: Henrieta Juhasz. says:

One of the city’s most popular bars, it’s a small venue but one that is very fashionable. House tunes are what you can expect here, and a clientele that like to be seen.

Location: Blumenstr 29

Nachtgalerie is recommended by: Estela Marinera. says:

If you’re one who likes to find the ultimate club in a city, look no further. This enormous nightclub located in a warehouse is the coolest club in town. Two things are good to take note of – the beer is notoriously cheap and the bouncers are notoriously picky. Make sure to have your ID with you.

Location: Landsbergerstrasse 185.

Magdalena Zielinska says:

Sausalitos definitely! Munchen im Tal;-) says:

While many would categorise this venue as a restaurant, it’s a bar at heart. Of course, you can get food if you please (they specialise in Mexican) but it’s better for a beer.

Location: Tal 16, city centre.
