Sure, you and Bae might be serving your friends unadulterated #CoupleGoals when you’re at home, but finding the perfect travel partner can be a little trickier. Sometimes, even the closest of couples may find that they experience a little trouble in paradise… in paradise! Unhitching the happy home and taking it on the road may cause a little turbulence for certain lovely lovers. Here are the 5 *totally scientifically proven and verified* types of travelling couples that will never make it as travel partners:
*may not be scientifically verified 😉
1. The Baller and The Budgeter
The Baller and The Budgeter are a true example of ‘opposites attract.’ The Baller wants to fly First Class and always stay in a private room. The Budgeter on the other hand, would rather take an 8-hour coach if it meant saving money, and is a firm advocate of a dorm room. The Baller wants to eat at the Michelin starred fine-dining restaurants, whereas The Budgeter prefers street food markets and cheap eat food trucks. The lack of compromise and differing price ranges will inevitably cost this travelling couple – (which of course annoys The Budgeter the most!)
2. The Comfort Zone Escape Artist and The Home Comforts Lover
From the moment the Comfort Zone Escape Artist steps off the plane they long for the unknown. They want to have thrilling experiences and sample unique cultural cuisines – jellied eel penis sounds delicious, thanks! The Home Comforts Lover, on the other hand, spends the entire trip on the pursuit of, well… home comforts. They are talented at scoping out a well-known supermarket chain and have a keen scent for any restaurant selling chicken tenders and fries. A relationship between The Comfort Zone Escape Artist and The Home Comforts Lover may start to get a little uncomfortable a while into the travels. The Home Comforts Lover is sick of being told to ‘loosen up,’ while The Comfort Zone Escape Artist just wishes their partner would be more spontaneous.
3.The Social Media Queen and The Live in The Moment-er
Armed with an iPhone and a heavily filtered Instagram account, The Social Media Queen lives for the likes. Their motto is ‘pics or it didn’t happen’ and they always apply this to traveling. Their Instagram feed is full of plandid photographs – hundreds of the classic back of the head shot looking longingly off into the ocean. Posed ~naturally~ sat on top of a rocky mountain, gently flicking their long blonde hair over their perfectly tanned shoulder. The Live in the Moment-er chooses memories over a full camera roll. They believe in capturing moments in the mind, not on a phone screen, and are truly exhausted of being asked ‘will you take a picture of me?’ On the Social Media Queen’s Instagram, it seems they have a picture-perfect relationship, but while travelling, things get a little uglier!
4. The Beach Boss and The City Swooner
The Beach Boss and The City Swooner have totally different ideas about #VacayGoals. When the Beach Boss travels they need to be by the sea. They need sand. They need sun. They are at their most peaceful whilst relaxing on a deck chair on a white sand beach, Pina Colada in hand of course! The City Swooner has another idea. They love the rush you feel in a busy city. They value adventure over personal space and convenience over fresh air. Skyscrapers, fusion restaurants, and historic architecture are the things that make a holiday for The City Swooner. We’re sure things will get a bit choppy for this travelling couple and it may even turn out as a bit of a car crash, but for now – there’s always Barcelona!
5. The Night Owl and The Early Bird
Yup, we’re pretty sure you already know a couple like this! One partner wants to wake up at 2pm, and plan the night ahead. They head out every night around 10, stay out dancing until 4, and of course they’re staying in a party hostel (duh)! For the Night Owl, travelling is all about drinking, dancing, and experiencing the nightlife of a new place! However, their partner is The Early Bird… and they have some worms to catch! The Early Bird wants to wake up as early as possible and fill their day with activities. Any time spent sleeping in is wasted time in their eyes. They crave sunrise yoga, long mornings at a museum, and they never miss out on the hostel breakfast! We’re not even sure how this couple met with such different schedules… probably Tinder tbh!
