Hostel of the week: Generator Berlin Mitte

Everyone needs an über hostel for a trip to über hip Berlin! Generator Berlin Mitte is planted in the oldest neighbourhood in Berlin. FYI, Mitte means “middle” so you literally couldn’t get a better location if you tried!

In a place where 24 hour ramshackle bars and wild all-nighters in super clubs are the norm, youre FOMO can do one, as at Generator you’re at the epicentre of the party inside and out. Oranienburger Strasse is Mitte’s hub for nightlife (more on Berlin Berlin bars here), galleries, art, cafes and restaurants, and it’s even home to one of Berlin’s few ghosts. According to legend, if you hang out at Oranienburger Straße 41 you might see two child spirits running along the “Ghost Wall.” There are hundreds of pennies stuck in to the crumbling mortar, as legend also has it that the mischievous pair grant wishes in exchange for pennies. Cheeky!
The hostel has its own swanky bar and an event space in the basement, so if happy hours and subterranean parties are your thing, Generator Mitte is THE ONE.



The social vibes don’t stop there. The bar spills out onto an outdoor courtyard, and there is an airy dining space decorated with plant pots and a caricature mural by British artist Luke Embden. In fact, Generator Berlin Mitte is brimming with cool AF art with installations hanging from the ceilings and murals splashed on white spaces in between the exposed brick walls.


For the morning after, grab a German breakfast and freshly brewed coffee and relax in the cosy library, where they have “Netlfix and Chill” every Sunday afternoon. It may be the city that never sleeps but having a comfy room to take refuge in for an invigorating night’s sleep is crucial. Choose from quads, private ensuites or dorms with USB port and your own LED light for late night reading and female only dorms with “getting ready” stations (see below!).

“I’ve done my fair share of travelling and this was simply the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at. It was clean, modern, the rooms were beautiful – well lit, spacious, and airy (4 bed private).
