London is an epic place to spend your New Year’s Eve…. And New Year’s Day 😉 Yes sure London can be an expensive city but if you have a little local knowledge it’s totally possible to have an affordable New Year’s Eve! We’re here to help with that…

Fireworks

The main event! (Thames riverside – Southbank) It wouldn’t be right not to mention the huge firework display that takes place on the River Thames by the London Eye. Officially knows as The Mayor of London’s firework display it’s partnering with Unicef this year. The ticket will cost you a tenner but it is one of the biggest and best firework displays in the world!

Tickets

Nearest tube stops: Westminster, Embankment, Waterloo, Charing Cross

For the romantic/skint! (Primrose Hill) Head to Primrose Hill for fantastic views across London and watch all the firework displays for free. This has become a bit of a New Year’s Eve favourite so you won’t be alone on this 78 metre high hill! Enjoy the sociable atmosphere and bring your celebratory drinks with you.

Nearest tube stops: Regents Park, Chalk Farm, Swiss Cottage

The Clubs!

London has plenty of clubs and bars hosting New Year’s Eve nights, we’ve picked a few of our favourite spots, but check out the amazing Y-Plan app for lots more ideas!

Tropical New Year Party (Village Underground)

This venue is really cool, this was once upon a time a derelict Victorian warehouse – now one of London’s hottest clubs. Soundcrash will be joined by some new and exciting DJ’s including Giles Peterson!

Cost: £29.70 – £38.50. Tickets

Nearest transport: Shoreditch High Street

Club NME NYE Ball (KOKO)

In a past life this super-club was a theatre and always has one of the most up for it crowds in London. Headlining the bands is The Bohicas and on the decks DJ Ed Wilder.

Cost: £25.31. Tickets

Nearest transport: Mornington Crescent

XOYO (WITH Bondax + Chris Lorenzo +Darius)

The electronic twosome, Bondax are headlining with a mix of house, post-dubset, R &B and garage. This two storey club has a street art interior… if you aren’t too busy dancing yourself into New Year’s Eve oblivion to notice! Considered one of London’s best and friendliest clubs. It offers ravers the feel of a warehouse with the intimate atmosphere (it does get sweaty!) of your local pub. The two rooms – both complete with powerful sound systems, incredible lasers and an infamous ‘I feel Love’ neon sign that you will undoubtedly Instagram at some point in the night.

Cost: £35 – £45.60. Tickets

Nearest transport: Shoreditch Highstreet (overground) or Old Street Tube Station

Ok so New Year’s Eve partying is fun but we think New Year’s Day clubbing is even better… it’s just a bit naughtier isn’t it?! Our favourite pick for New Year’s Day has to be…

Secretsundaze (Shapes)

We love this because you get a total mix of clubbers on the carry-on from the night before and fresh faced, sparkly eyed folk who are starting their celebrations! This year’s event is taking place in trendy Hackney’s Shapes and has a warehouse vibe. Leon Vynehall and Joey Anderson will be dazzling the day time clubbers with a house and techno selection.

Cost: £9.50 – £14.50. Tickets

Nearest transport: Hackney Wick (overground)

As we write this post there are hostel beds available for New Year’s Eve in London…. Look and book here. You may just find that your hostel of choice has a party of its own going on – we’ve heard a rumour Clink78 is having a big one and Astor Hostels always has a packed board of parties (plus they’re in amazing locations dotted around London). St Christopher’s in Camden is a stone’s throw from Koko and The Dictionary Hostel in Shoreditch is perfect for both XOYO and Village Underground.
