The 15 Best Hostels in Hanoi
Backpacking Vietnam is a dream come true for every backpacker. It’s not only fascinating but also one of the easiest and cheapest countries to backpack in the world. I’ve had the privilege of spending more than a month exploring the country and over three weeks living in Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital and largest city.
You definitely won’t have a problem finding things to do in Hanoi, but Hanoi is not only about filling your time with as much as you can. Walking through Hanoi is an open invitation to enjoy the real city life. It’s city that wakes up super early in the morning, that has life happening around its lake from dust to dawn. This frequently presents opportunities to meet the locals, with wide-open doors, meals and family conversations.
The tranquillity of the lakes contrasts with that typical “chaos” that you grow to love about south-east Asia: The many colours, endless electric wires and constant lights and sounds. All this can make you a bit tired at the end of the day, so it is essential to have a great place to sleep in Hanoi – so here are my tips, for finding the 15 best hostels in Hanoi!
How To Find The Best Hostels In Hanoi For Your Trip
The majority of hostels in Hanoi are located in the Old Quarter, a region around Hoàn Kiếm Lake. Beyond being the most touristic region of the city, the Old Quarter is an important commercial and social centre, and the lake itself is a very important place for Hanoians. So this is the area to stay if you want to be in the heat of the action. Hồ Tây Lake (known as West Lake), is perfect for those looking for a place a bit off the path.
Hanoi has a huge hostel offering, with all sorts of prices, vibes, rooms and facilities that fit any traveller. The party backpacker, the chilled couple, big groups, everyone will find their perfect hostel. Most hostels in Hanoi offer free breakfast and have travel desks while many others include bars and restaurants. You can expect to spend around £2.50-£7 for a single bed in a dorm, and £13-£20 for a double private room.
