Mochileros TV on the 11 things you’ll miss when leaving a hostel
Hostels: places where people from all over the world meet and share experiences of their traveling adventures. Iosu and Alberto of Mochileros TV know hostel life like their back of their well-travelled hands, so we asked them what they miss most when leaving hostel life and returning home…
1. The People

Those who have stayed in a hostel while traveling know that there is no such thing as a truly solo traveller. Hostels are places for people of all kinds to meet, swap stories and learn from the advice and experiences shared by others. These interactions often lead to real friendships with people from all over the world that you’ll be sad to leave behind when moving on to your next destination.
2. The Hostel Itself

When you arrive at a new hostel, getting used to things can sometimes be a challenge. It’s a new bed, new people, new currency, new surroundings, and sometimes even a new language! Eventually though the hostel begins to feel like home, and it can be sad to leave, especially when hostels are so beautiful and comfy!
3. Nightlife

Hostels are always fun places to be. For those who are looking for a party or good times, there’s always a happy hour, quiz night, beer pong, workshops, games, live music or comedy etc. to keep you busy. Hostels are also great at improvising and pointing you in the direction of local entertainment.
4. The International Feel
Being in a hostel can make you feel like you’re travelling the world before you even step outside. Hostels are full of great people from all different cultures, who speak different languages. You could run into a German touring South America on a vintage motorcycle, or an Italian about to cruise the Atlantic in a sailboat!
5. Luxury Accommodation for Little Money

Hostels across the world are getting nicer and nicer! Some of them are like miniature mansions, full of affordable luxury. Some are even known as “boutique” hostels. Whether it’s their heavenly location, their pools or buffets – hostels have so much that most hotels would envy!
6. Hostel Pets

Many hostel owners have their pets along for the adventure: dogs, parrots, cats, and even turtles! How can you resist the love and attention of these faithful guardians of your accommodation!
7. Anecdotes

Staying in a hostel means you’re surrounded by ongoing stories and hilarious anecdotes. These shared experiences are part of the journey, and you’ll remember these bonding moments for years to come.
8. Owners & Staff

The staff and owners of hostels are the soul of the place. They are ultimately travellers like us, mingling with guests to explain the deeper side of the cities we visit. They are full of local knowledge and are more than willing to help point you in the direction of the best the city has to offer.
9. The Food

Travel to eat the world. Each location has a unique and particular cuisine, but in a hostel you can often find a whole mix of great ones! Many travellers bring with them their culinary skills. Sampling some of the finest dishes in the world without spending much is another of the many advantages of staying in a hostel.
10. Unique Hostels

Each hostel is a small universe that has its own rules and features. Some are more relaxing, and some are more into the party scene. There are hostels that have musical instruments in all the rooms and one that has been built out of an old jumbo jet! Each hostel has its own unique feel, and once you’re used to that hostel, you might miss it when moving on to the next one. But have no fear, the next stop will have a whole new set of unique features and atmosphere to embrace.
11. Artistic Vibes

Hostels have their own personalities. Sometimes they’re decorated with peculiar objects that guests have left behind. They are true museums of the traveller. In many cases some of the people staying in them give away their art, leaving their mark before moving on.
