The Elephant Hostel Policy and Conditions:

Cancellation Policy: 1 day before arrival. In case of a late cancellation or No Show, you will be charged the first night of your stay.

Stayed for a week in the mixed dorms. As a female solo traveler I felt very safe. Super clean and beautiful hostel. Located right in front of a tram stop. The beds are comfy and you have a lot of privacy, but it can get quite hot at night when the blind is closed. It’s not a social hostel at all, so if your goal is to meet new people during your travel, I would recommend staying somewhere else, but if you want a calm hostel, it’s the one for you.

As a female solo traveler I felt very safe, even in the mixed dorm. The hostel is nice and clean, the staff friendly. The sleeping dorms give a lot of privacy, but not alot of space for you and your stuff. It dosen't really have a hostel vibe, so it takes some effort to meet people.

Great hostel about 20 minutes' walk from the centre of Amsterdam. Situated in a beautiful old building, there's an amazing common room with outstanding ceilings presered from its previous use as a hotel and private home. The rooms aren't exactly spacious--I was in a dorm of twelve with three-storey bunk beds--but they all had private cubbies and curtains along with working lights, chargers, and a pocket for belongings. Everything was spotlessly clean and the receptionist was super friendly.
