Overview

Welcome to Backpackers HQ, our sociable and relaxed hostel in Sydney. This is the place to take it easy in between sightseeing. Every day begins with our famous free breakfast – fill up on cereal, toast, fresh fruit and more – and have it outside in our atrium courtyard and chilled garden area. If you’re not heading out during the day, chill out with us here: our big, 24-hour lounge has cable TV (just saying!). We've also got a book exchange and a giant chess set. And when you’re not out sampling Sydney’s best restaurants, save money by making dinner in our modern, shared kitchen.

Location

You’ll find us in Sydney’s ultra-hip King’s Cross neighbourhood, on leafy Victoria Street. The area's teeming with restaurants, bars and cafés serving proper coffee. Start by ticking those must-sees off your list, like Sydney Opera House, which is a half-hour walk or 20-minute train ride away. The closest station, King’s Cross, is only 2 minutes away and makes getting around a breeze. Just hop on for under half an hour to get to Sydney Airport.

Rooms and Dorms

To help you meet other travellers on your wavelength, we offer mixed dorms of all sizes. Every room has security lockers more than big enough to fit your backpack, and comes with free linen. If you get chilly (or just like to be cosy), chat to the friendly staff at reception about hiring a blanket.

Extras and activities

We have super-fast Wi-Fi, making it easy to keep in touch with everyone back home and plan your onward travel. Make sure to grab a free city map before you head out for the day – or join us on a free walking tour so we can show you around. Quiet day? Do some laundry (because those day-three socks aren’t going to get your bunk-mates on side).

This is more of a long stay hostel. Everyone was nice enough for the short time that I stayed. The dorm room was quite messy and full of everyone's stuff already. Common areas were clean enough too however the kitchen was left in an absolute state by the guests so if you got to making your dinner late it wasn't the tidiest. Good hostel tho.

A decent place. The location is nice and perfect but the staff are just backpackers so there was no tour of the hostel or introduction to anything. The wifi is non existent except in certain spots. Leaks and open pipes all over., bathrooms in the room are very small

The reception staff was either extremely helpful or very rude and unapproachable. During my stay, there were two different receptionists, a guy and a girl. She was very nice and happy to help me. However, the bald guy was exactly the opposite.

I paid $20 for a bed in a 12 people room. You don’t wait big services, but staff is not friendly and my room had one small window to the lounge (veeery noise). Breakfast is OK. I didn’t like the vibe of that hostel.

the rooms are very messy and smelly, the kitchen in the evening hours is completely dirty, the tv room is terrible, the pillows are already yellow because they are very old, the staff is friendly and the location is good.

Tried to over charge me. Room stank. Didn’t have a pillow had to wait 30 mins at night for one. Waited an hour for someone at reception tk check in at 10pm even though they knew I was coming. Heard the staff talking down to someone in the morning when I left which p****d me off. What a horrible place to stay. Not worth it
