⛷️ What to look for when choosing a ski hostel in Europe
Skiing hostels vary a lot, so before you book, check these things on the listing:
Distance to the lifts, not the town centre. A hostel “in the centre” can still be a bus ride from the first lift. Look for a ski shuttle or a free resort bus.
Ski storage and drying space. A heated boot room makes a huge difference after a wet day on the mountain.
What’s included. Free breakfast, bed linen and tourist tax all change the real nightly price. Some hostels charge for linen or breakfast separately.
How the price is shown. A private room’s “from” price on Hostelworld can work out per person for the whole room, so it sometimes looks cheaper than a dorm bed. Check the total for your dates before you book.
Somewhere to recover. A sauna, hot tub or log fire is the cheapest luxury in the mountains.

Les Houches sits at the western end of the Chamonix Valley. It’s quieter than Chamonix town, and some places to stay here run ski shuttles to the slopes in the morning and back in the afternoon. Where are the best alternatives to the Alps for social skiing on a budget?

Is snowboarding cheap in Europe?
