1. Caffènation Amsterdam

The well-known Belgian roaster Caffènation has recently opened its first store outside its home country. Located in a part of the city that is often referred to as the Belgian Quarter, there is a beautiful park opposite where you can enjoy a flat white to go.
2. Headfirst Coffee Roasters

Home to reigning Dutch barista champion Lex Wenneker and his partner Jonathan Scheeper, these two roast really good coffee and serve it in a relaxed and friendly environment.
3. Lot Sixty One Coffee Roasters

This top spot in Oud West roasts coffee in-house and also hosts public cafes where you can sample some of the latest coffees. The sunny benches in front of the cafe are perfect for people watching and enjoying some of the best coffee in Amsterdam.
4. Trakteren

Trakteren is one of Amsterdam’s first specialty cafés, located in the quiet Oud West district, offering a wide range of coffees, loose teas and handmade chocolates.
5. White Label Coffee Roastery

Run by an adorable coffee-obsessed couple, White Label Roastery hosts regular events such as book readings and concerts, and is home to contemporary Dutch aeropress master Floris van der Burg.

6. Sweet Cup

Sweet Cup is an island of calm in one of Amsterdam’s most touristy spots, where they roast their own coffee on site and offer delicious homemade cakes.
7. Scandinavian Embassy

One of the city’s most innovative concepts, Scandinavian Embassy is run by an Argentinian barista, a Swedish chef and a Polish designer. Together they offer quality coffee and food that is not to be missed.
8. Back to Black

Located right by the famous Rijksmuseum, Back to Black is one of the nicest places in town and offers a great selection of coffee from local roasters. There’s a large communal table for making friends and a spot by the window for those who just want to switch off and relax with a book.
9. Koko Coffee & Design

Koko combines great coffee with hand-picked fashion and design right in the heart of the Red Light District. Koko has its coffee roasted to order by Caffènation (see above) and offers a cozy retreat from the hustle and bustle outside.
10. Espressofabriek

Probably the first ever specialty coffee shop in the city, Espressofabriek opened its doors more than 10 years ago. The café is surrounded by the beautiful Westerpark and is located close to a large number of markets, festivals and events.

Owned by one of the co-owners of Coffee Bru (above), Rum Baba is a beautiful coffee shop in the heart of East Amsterdam that also serves as the headquarters of local tea brand Monkey Chief. They bake some of the best cakes and cookies in the city.

The cheerful and friendly Coffee Bru was one of the first great coffee shops in the eastern part of Amsterdam and has gained a cult following over the years. Expect great coffee, tea and fabulous cakes.
13. Stooker Roasting Co.

It’s not a café in the traditional sense, as it’s not open to the public during the week, but on Saturdays Stooker Roasting Co. hosts public cuppings and offers workshops in its beautiful roastery. So if you happen to be in town this weekend, stop by and sample some of their expertly roasted coffees.
14. Coffee Company Roastery

Run by the people behind one of the largest coffee chains in the country, this coffee shop is a mix of coffee shop and concept store. Their focus here is on sourcing, roasting and brewing truly special coffees, which you can enjoy on their beautiful terrace overlooking the famous brewery with its windmills and canals.

Located in Amsterdam Noord, The Coffee Virus is mainly frequented by people working in the co-working space A-Lab and their guests, and is a great place for anyone looking for great coffee, delicious food and the occasional drone to deliver their coffee.
